This exclusive private clubhouse in the Byron Hinterland comprises a tennis court, gymnasium, yoga studio, sauna, steam room, outdoor bar and spa, with associated decks and viewing platforms. The building has been designed to curve away from the tennis court back towards the main building compound, wrapping around the natural contours of the land and framing two huge trees. The stone backbone of the building provides protection and intimacy to the newly formed central courtyard, creating a dramatic entry point from the ‘yellow brick road’ leading up from the main buildings. The views from all rooms of the clubhouse have been framed by a rustic timber colonnade that wraps the entire northern façade of the building. The colonnade will eventually be entirely covered in vines, providing both shelter and a sense of containment between the open plan interiors and the landscape beyond.
