This proposal for a new free standing home is a perfect example of the localised, sustainable, fomalist architecture that The Quinlan Group is creating. Localised in the sense that it grows naturally out of the site, both in form and material; sustainable in that it is oriented and designed in such a way as to maximise natural light penetration and passive ventilation; and formalist in the sense that the building is sculpturally beautiful. As articulated in Archengine’s manifesto, these three key concepts are laid over traditional planning priciples of efficiency and clarity giving the building a sense of solidity and permanence, despite its striking modern appearance.
